Bio-Fem offers a little encouragement to mums for National Breastfeeding Awareness Week

The Breastfeeding Manifesto, launched in the House of Commons on Wednesday, drew attention to the fact that fewer than 2% of babies in the UK are exclusively breastfed at six months.

In light of these worrying statistics, released to coincide with National Breastfeeding Awareness Week (13-19 May), Bio-Fem hopes its nipple care products can help look after mothers and encourage them to breastfeed for longer.

Breastfeeding has considerable proven advantages for mother and baby and the World Health Organisation recommends that babies are exclusively breastfed for their first six months. Amongst other short and long-term health benefits, it reduces the rate of breast cancer and infant diabetes. And the pride and connection of a mum to her healthy breastfed baby is immeasurable.

To encourage breastfeeding and celebrate the mums who do, Bio-Fem is giving away samples of its Instant Relief Compress. Bio-Fem Relief Compress has a unique 3-in-1 concept to soothe, restore and regenerate nipples, which can sometimes become sore or cracked if the baby positioning or attachment is not correct. The 100% natural, gel-covered compress can be placed inside the bra, directly onto the nipple, and has a plasticised side to prevent leakage onto the bra or clothes. Placed onto the nipple, it has a direct soothing effect for mum.

This Wednesday, Jemima Khan joined MPs and members of the Breastfeeding Coalition at Westminster to launch their Breastfeeding Manifesto. The Manifesto, which aims to collect 10,000 signatures by the end of this week, encourages the UK government and health service to give women the information and support to help them breastfeed for as long as they wish.

Philip Artus, managing director of Passion for Life Healthcare, which distributes Bio-Fem in the UK, said: “We fully support the aim of the Breastfeeding Coalition, and hope that our products can help by relieving mothers who experience real discomfort and so give them the encouragement they need to continue breastfeeding, instead of giving up sooner than they would want to.”

Bio-Fem also produces an Instant Moisturising Balm made from plant and herbal extracts. Based on Bio-Active science, the Moisturising Balm can be used during the latter stages of pregnancy and when breastfeeding. The shea butter, sunflower oil and plant based ingredients work together to instantly improve and strengthen the condition of the nipple and nipple area. Both Bio-Fem nipple products have been developed with midwives and are 100% natural and preservative and lanolin free. The products are therefore entirely safe for both mother and baby and do not need to be removed prior to breastfeeding.
